Article Summary
This article explains how search works in the Help Center, including how results are presented and includes some tips for using search.
Understanding how search works can help you find the content you need more quickly.
Using Search
Search is designed to help you find specific information quickly, especially when you know what you are looking for.
The Search bar is most prominently displayed on the home page of the Brunswick Help Center, but it is accessible from anywhere.
To get started, click search bar on the page and begin typing your query. As you type (or if you pause momentarily), suggested results may appear.
Suggested Results
From the suggested results, you can:
- Click (or tap) a result to open the article
- Continue typing or revise your search query
- Press the Enter ⏎ key to be taken to the search results page
- On touch-based devices (phones, tablets, etc.), you may see a Search 🔍 button on the on-screen keyboard
In the suggested results, keywords in the article title that match your search query are highlighted.
Each suggested result shows two things:
- The article title
- Example: Sync Solus 4.1 Release Notes - Overview
- Keywords that match your search query are highlighted
- The location of the article
- Example: ... > Sync® Center Operations > Release Information > Sync Solus 4.1
These details can help you determine whether an article is relevant to what you are looking for.
Reviewing the Search Results
From the search results page, you can do any of the following:
- Click (or tap) a result to open the article
- Refine your search or try a different query
The Search Results page will show you all results for query and provide additional information for each result, including:
- The article title
- Example: Sync Solus 4.1 Release Notes - Overview
- The location of the article
- Example: ... > Sync® Center Operations > Release Information > Sync Solus 4.1
- A snippet (preview) of the article content
- The preview shows one or more excerpts from the article
- Words (or partial matches) related to your search query are highlighted
Tips for Getting Effective Search Results
If your search query returns a large number of results (for example, 200+), you may need to refine your search to find what you are looking for more quickly.
How Search Results Work
Search uses your query to find the most relevant content and displays the results in a ranked order.
If your query has multiple words, articles that match more of your search terms are generally ranked higher than those that match fewer terms.
Using Keywords Effectively
Product and Feature Names
If you know the name of a product or feature, include it in your search.
Examples:
| "sync office" |
| "gs-nxt pinsetter" |
| "epson" "remote order printer" |
| "nitro lighting" |
| "frameworx scoring" |
Keyword Phrasing
There is a significant difference between searching for:
- sync solus
- "sync solus"
- "sync" "solus"
Searching for 'sync solus' returns articles that match either 'sync' OR 'solus"
Searching for "sync solus" returns articles that match the exact phrase
- Searching for "sync" "solus" returns articles that contain both words (but not necessarily next to each other).
Advanced Tips
These tips may not apply in every situation, but they can help narrow down search results.
Excluding Words From Results
You can remove unwanted results by adding a minus sign (-) before a keyword. This will search for your query while excluding results that contain the specified word.
Examples:
| Example | Search Query |
| I'm looking for information on the new Sync Time Clock feature, but we're using the integrated time clock and not the 7shifts integration. | "sync time clock" -7shifts |
| I need help troubleshooting my remote order printer in the kitchen. I don't know what model it is exactly, but I know it's not manufactured by Epson. | "remote order printer" -epson |
| I'm looking for a manual for my Boost ST pinsetters, but I don't need the parts catalog | "boost st" -parts |
Finding Product Manuals by Part Number
Manuals published by the Service Publications team include the part number in the article title.
If you know the part number, you can search for it directly.
Example:
We purchased Brunswick Boost ST string pinsetters for my center and I want to know if there is an updated version of the service manual.
If you are looking for an updated service manual:
Locate the part number on the manual cover page.
(Example) Part Number: 55-900200-000 Search for the part number in the Help Center. This will return the corresponding article (if available).
Click the result to open the article.
Manual articles also include a publication date, allowing you to quickly identify the most recent update.
