ENVOY+ Software - USB Updating

  • Updated

Background:

Since the release of ENVOY+ in 2019, there are two different tablet types in circulation. They are referred to as "S5" and "S6". These require different versions of software file to be installed that match the tablet type.

  • If updating from 3.53 to 3.64, please follow Type 2 instructions below, taking special note of which tablet type you have to match the correct software variant.
  • If updating from 3.65 and later, please follow Type 1 instructions below. 3.65 and later software can detect which version of tablet you have and install the correct version automatically.

TYPE 1: INSTALL SOFTWARE VIA USB .ZIP FILE (3.65 and later)

  1. On a USB drive, create folder titled “Update”
  2. On a PC, download LaneMachine_3_6_20.zip and place the .zip file inside of this “Update” folder on USB.
  3. Insert USB into ENVOY+ tablet. An auto boot menu will launch
    1. Select Update Software, and select the latest version of .ZIP software. The tablet will auto detect which version of software to install – S5 or S6.
  4. Once the boot menu closes, remove the USB and installation is complete.

TYPE 2: INSTALL SOFTWARE .APK VIA USB (3.64 or prior)

NOTE the .APK version must match the tablet type you have or it will not install. The .APK files denote the tablet type in the filename. See distinguishing features below.

  1. Set up security for a Level II user, if it has not been set up already.
  2. Return to OPERATOR screen, and press the Silhouette Icon in the lower left corner to logout.
  3. Input any random 4-digit code in the login menu – this will give a 4-digit access code on a red error message.
  4. Download the AccessCodeGenerator tool at the bottom of this page
    1. Enter the access code from the tablet into the box titled Access Code in the tool and press ENTER. A Generated Code will be created in the box below it in the tool.
    2. Press OK on the red error message on the tablet, and immediately type in the 4 digit Generated Code from the AccessCodeGenerator. You will now be logged into the tablet in Support mode.
  5. Exit to the Android OS by going to the SYSTEM Menu, SECURITY, “Exit to Android OS”
  6. Swipe the lane machine application to close it by swiping the application towards the tablet camera.

This is important!!!! If you do not close the app, as soon as you enter a USB drive, an automatic pop-up menu will appear, and you'll need to start over.

  7. Navigating to Android OS home screen. Determining which type of tablet you have will determine which .APK file to manually install.
    1. If you have an S5, the Android home screen will have a green background.
    2. If you have an S6, you will see a rainbow-colored background that requires a “drag up” towards the camera to reveal the home menu.

  8. Open ESFileExplorer App from Android home menu. Then insert the USB with the appropriate .APK file.
    1. Navigate to the USB drive, (usually called “udisk”), and select the 3.6.20.APK.
  9. Follow the instructions to “INSTALL”. When installation is complete, select "DONE" and remove the USB. Power the tablet off and on.
  10. You will likely get a communication error as soon as the installation is complete. Powering off the machine/tablet and powering it back on will re-sync the tablet/enclosure pairing.

You are now ready to begin using 3.6.20 software on ENVOY+, and are future proofed for future easy updating by Type 1 instructions (above).
